The following exhibit celebrates the culture and ideas of Latin American Through art. Each piece is symbolic of the different struggles and issues Latin Americans face in the world today. The pieces celebrate the unity and spirit of the Latin American culture and how the change in times is affecting their lives. Each artist in the exhibit has different take on the lives that most Latin American live today. The artists also touch on broader themes such as beauty, the environment, religion, technology, free will and what it takes to make this world a better place for Latin Americans and everyone that lives on this beautiful earth


La siguiente exposición “Celebrando la cultura latinoamericana e ideas a través del arte. Cada pieza es un símbolo de las diferentes luchas y los problemas de América Latina de frente al mundo de hoy. Las piezas celebran la unidad y el espíritu de la cultura de Latinoamericana y cómo el cambio en el tiempo está afectando a sus vidas. Cada artista en la exposición tiene opinión diferente sobre la vida que hoy vive la mayoría de América Latina. Los artistas también tocan temas más amplios como la belleza, el medio ambiente, la religión, la tecnología, el libre albedrío y lo que se necesita para hacer de este mundo un lugar mejor para los latinoamericanos y todo el mundo que vive en esta tierra hermosa.


Young Country Boy
In this piece the expression in the boy’s eyes is paramount. The boy is distressed and sad that he cannot go to school and must work on the farm with his father. His father who is sitting down and is turned away is only concerned with the farm and not the boy’s future.

Joven campesino
En esta obra la expresión en los ojos del niño es primordial. El niño está angustiado y triste que él no puede ir a la escuela y deben trabajar en la granja con su padre. Su padre, que está sentado y se dio la vuelta sólo se ocupa de la finca y no el futuro del niño.




Between Nostalgia & Reality
This piece depicts the life of the artist. The clay pots represent the nostalgia of his Latin American roots and the apple represents New York where he lives now

Esta obra describe la vida del artista. Las ollas de barro representan la nostalgia de sus raíces de América Latina y la manzana representa New York, donde vive ahora




Awakening in El Paso Texas
The message behind this piece is one of pro immigration. In the picture the chains represent the racism Latin Americans face when they immigrate into this country. The artist believes in immigration and how coming to America can bring a better life to immigrants, but also recognizes that there is also a dark side to the journey Latin Americans face when they come to this country

En la imagen las cadenas representan el racismo que América Latina ve de frente al inmigrar a este país. El artista cree en la inmigración y la forma de llegar a Estados Unidos puede traer una vida mejor a los inmigrantes, pero también reconoce que hay también un lado oscuro en el viaje de los latinoamericanos que se enfrentan cuando llegan a este país
Roots# 4
In this piece the two bowls represent the different Latin American cultures that live in the world today. The chains are symbolic of the roots all Latin American share. The artist believes Latin Americans should celebrate their roots and be unified by them

En esta pieza las dos vasijas representan las diferentes culturas de América Latina que viven en el mundo de hoy. Las cadenas son un símbolo de las raíces que todos compartimos de América Latina. El artista cree que los latinoamericanos deben celebrar sus raíces y estar unidos por ellas.



Walls
This piece is a tribute the unnamed immigrants who tried to make it to America but died in the process. Each year thousands of immigrants from Latin America come to this country and many of them do not make it and die on the journey. This piece celebrates their lives and the efforts they made to try to get to America to live a better life. The faces are nameless and the barbwire represents the difficulty some immigrants must go through to get to this country

Esta pieza es un tributo los inmigrantes sin nombre que trataron de llegar a América, pero murieron en el proceso. Cada año miles de inmigrantes de América Latina vienen a este país y muchos de ellos no lo logran y mueren en el viaje. Esta pieza celebra sus vidas y los esfuerzos que hicieron para tratar de llegar a Estados Unidos para vivir una vida mejor. Los rostros son anónimos y el alambre de púas representa la dificultad de algunos inmigrantes deben pasar para llegar a este país.

Nostalgia
In this piece the butterfly is symbolic of the freedom people have in living their lives. The chains represent the past and nostalgia that we carry with us in our lives. Though we many be free we are always chained to the nostalgia of our roots. According to the artist we are never free from out past

Las cadenas representan el pasado y la nostalgia que llevamos con nosotros en nuestras vidas. A pesar que muchos sentimos ser libres, siempre estamos encadenados a la nostalgia de nuestras raíces. Según el artista nunca estamos libres de las anteriores

In this piece the artist is depicting the beauty of nature and how beautiful nature could be without pollution. The colors in the painting represent the beauty of the fall season with colors of the autumn leaves. The movement you see in the piece is the freedom of nature without any pollution

These two pieces depict the beauty of nature in El Salvador. The artist is fond of the beauty of his country and believes the land needs to be safeguarded against development and pollution. The artist also believes man can find within nature

In Mexico a Kite is known as a Barrilete or Papalote. In El Salvador it is known as Piscucha.
It is a form of entertainment that is adopted by children and youth in the summer time allowing them to get the feeling of flying free in the skies and being one with nature

En México una cometa que se conoce como Barrilete o Papalote. En El Salvador se le conoce como Piscucha. Es una forma de entretenimiento que es adoptado por los niños y jóvenes en el verano lo que les permite tener la sensación de volar libre en los cielos y ser uno con la naturaleza

Ondulaciones-Undulations or Wavy if referring to water
In this piece the strokes and colors are simulating the movement of a wave. This represents the human desire to better him self, coupled with the diverse realities in his constant search for his own nature.

This painting celebrates the religious celebration held in Central America on May 3rd
May 3rd is the Day of the Cross in Central America. On that day the children pray to the cross. The fruit at the base of the cross represents the food and nourishment the people are thankful for.

Esta pintura celebra la fiesta religiosa celebrada en Centro América el 3 de mayo.
03 de mayo es el Día de la Cruz en América Central. Ese día los niños rezan a la cruz. La fruta en la base de la cruz representa el alimento y la gente da gracias por el alimento.

Future Wish
This piece calls for equality for everyone and the eradication of discrimination and inequality. The children in the piece do not take a look at the fairy-wish-granter’s skin color to ask for wishes. They are blind to color. The artist believes if we end discrimination we will be making a better world for our children to live in

Esta obra exige la igualdad para todos y la erradicación de la discriminación y la desigualdad. Los niños de la pieza no echar un vistazo a color de la piel de la hada de los deseos para pedir deseos. Ellos son ciegos al color. Hope in the Symbol: Then and Now
In this piece the artist portrays the Statue of Liberty when it was first given to the United States by France and how it looks in its present condition. When the Statue of Liberty first arrived it was a shiny cooper piece of art but now it is green due to erosion and time. The statue is not as bright as it used to be. The artist feels this is symbolic of America’s immigration policies. In the past America was more open to immigrants and now America is trying to curb immigration. The Statue of Liberty has lost some of its luster and America’s immigration policies have changed.

En esta pieza el artista retrata a la Estatua de la Libertad cuando se le dio primero a los Estados Unidos por Francia y cómo se ve en su estado actual. Cuando la Estatua de la Libertad llegó primero era un pedazo de cobre brillante del arte, pero ahora es verde debido a la erosión y el tiempo. La estatua no es tan brillante como lo que solía ser. El artista siente que este es un símbolo de las políticas de inmigración de Estados Unidos. En el pasado América fue más abierto a los inmigrantes y ahora Estados Unidos está tratando de frenar la inmigración. La Estatua de la Libertad ha perdido algo de su brillo y las políticas estadounidenses de inmigración han cambiado.

This painting depicts how the digital age of cell phone, computer and technological gadgets have affected the youth. The artist shows the skin of the girl in the piece being covered in digital patterns. This illustrates how much the digital age has affected our youth.

In this piece the artist portrays the surface and interior of the earth. On the exterior you notice the city. This city is polluting the exterior of the earth. According to the artist the earth’s interior is free of pollution and the pieces inside the interior of the earth have the ability to create a better and cleaner planet

In this piece the woman is giving the viewer the cold shoulder since she has been rejected. Just as her spirit is dying from rejection so are the leaves on the trees as the season of autumn come around
